Did you know that, in many cases, it is not necessary to travel to Ukraine to initiate the surrogacy process in that country?
While we made both trips to Kyiv, one at the beginning and one at the end of the surrogacy process, we are aware of other families who initiated the process remotely, from their home country.
This option is very convenient, especially for families who, for various reasons, find it difficult to be absent from their country during the time required for the initial trip to Ukraine.
How does the process start in these cases? Firstly, intended parents must send the required documentation by courier to the surrogacy center's address, as mandated by Ukrainian surrogacy law to initiate the process. This typically includes apostilled passports of the intended mother and father, a legalized marriage certificate, and a medical certificate signed and stamped by a specialist confirming the intended mother's inability to carry a pregnancy.
Secondly, the genetic material must be sent to Ukraine through a courier service specialized in delivering biological samples. It's common to send sperm samples in cases of egg donation, but embryos can also be sent if intended parents have cryopreserved blastocysts in their home country.
Once the surrogacy center has received the documentation and genetic samples, the reproductive treatment begins, followed by the embryo transfer to the designated gestational carrier.
This is a good alternative to start the surrogacy process.
