Medical Tests To Start the Surrogacy Process

Medical Tests To Start the Surrogacy Process

Families wishing to initiate a surrogacy process abroad can start with the initial preparatory steps from their home country.

One of these steps involves submitting an electronic copy of a series of medical studies and certificates to the surrogacy center's coordinator, which are necessary to proceed with gestational surrogacy.

In our case, we sent the following documentation via email:

  1. A medical certificate explaining the reasons why the intended mother cannot conceive or carry a pregnancy to term.

  2. Karyotype tests for both intended mother and father (if not available, they can also be performed at the surrogacy destination).

  3. Blood tests for both intended mother and father to detect infectious diseases: HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C, all dated within six months.

  4. Chest X-rays for both intended mother and father, dated within six months.

  5. Semen analysis for the intended father, dated within six months.

  6. Hormonal blood tests for the intended mother, dated within six months.

  7. Ovarian ultrasound for the intended mother, dated within six months.

In the case where the parents are using an egg donor, the only document required from the intended mother is the medical certificate.

Once these documents are sent and reviewed by the reproductive medicine specialists at the surrogacy center, they will confirm whether everything is in order or if any of the studies need to be repeated.

Once the medical evaluation stage is completed, you can proceed from there by preparing the necessary legal documentation.
