Blastocysts and Surrogacy in Ukraine

Updated: Oct 6, 2023

In the laboratory of the surrogacy center we chose in Kyiv, Ukraine, embryos resulting from the ICSI treatment are cultivated until the fifth or sixth day after egg retrieval, allowing them to reach the blastocyst stage.

Not all embryos have the capability to reach this stage. The inner cell group of the blastocyst will become the embryo, while the outer cell group will become the cells that nourish and protect it.

Some advantages of transferring blastocysts include:

  1. Improved Embryo Selection: Blastocysts that reach this stage have a higher capacity for successful implantation and the development of a healthy pregnancy, as they have surpassed potential developmental blocks that commonly occur in earlier stages.

  2. Physiological Synchronization: There is better synchronization between the embryo and the uterine lining at this stage, mirroring natural development when the embryo reaches the uterine cavity. Additionally, there is a lower percentage of uterine contractions at the time of transfer, which favors embryo implantation.

  3. Reduced Chromosomal Abnormalities: Due to the selection process mentioned earlier, blastocysts have a lower percentage of chromosomal abnormalities or aneuploidies.

In the surrogacy center we chose, all blastocysts undergo biopsy to screen for the most common abnormalities.

For all these reasons, blastocyst transfer is another advantage in the surrogacy process in our surrogacy center in Ukraine that helps expedite the journey toward achieving the dream, as it avoids transferring embryos that may not be suitable for successful development.

We'll share more about the next stages of the surrogacy treatment in the blog.
