Birth Certificate, Check ✔︎

Updated: Oct 5, 2023

The birth certificate of our son arrived sooner than expected, and this is how the process unfolded...

Once settled in our apartment in Kyiv, Ukraine, and extremely happy to be together as a family of three, we didn't forget that an essential procedure within the surrogacy process was pending for us to return to our home country: obtaining our baby's birth certificate and Argentine passport to leave Ukraine and enter Argentina.

A few days after being discharged from the maternity hospital, our translator and coordinator assigned by the surrogacy center requested our marriage certificate and original birth certificates to submit to the Kyiv Civil Registry office to apply for the birth certificate for our baby.

After a few days, she asked us to attend the Civil Registry office in person, along with our baby, to sign the original documentation related to the birth certificate and complete the procedure.

Fortunately, our apartment was just a few blocks away from the Civil Registry office, so the transportation provided by the surrogacy center got us there in less than five minutes, and within another fifteen minutes, we had completed our part of the process.

From that point on, the surrogacy center took care of translating the Ukrainian birth certificate into Spanish and obtaining the apostille, a certification required to validate public documents like this one when presented to international (Argentine) authorities.

All of this happened within 25 consecutive days, a perfect timing for our baby to spend his early days in the safety of our Ukrainian home. As we approached the end of the procedure, he celebrated his first month of life, and his defenses were a bit stronger for the journey back.

Finally, everything was ready for us to appear at the Argentine Consulate and return to Argentina as a family of three!

Don't miss our second experience in Ukraine at a new surrogacy center, this time as a family of four!
