our surrofamily

Finally, the day came when our family dream came true.

We scheduled our flight to Ukraine considering the gestational carrier's expected delivery date, we travelled two weeks in advance in order to make sure we would be in Kyiv whenever the birth should take place.

Since by default, childbirth at our agency involved vaginal delivery in order to protect the gestational carrier's health (except when a c-section is safer for the mother, the baby, or both) we decided to arrive in Ukraine in advance.

The day came when our agency coordinator let us know labor had began, in a few hours our baby would be in our arms.

At the maternity hospital, the doctor provided us with a medical report comprising the pregnancy and the birth, and also informed us on the estimated release date.

The agency we chose for our first surrogacy program did not offer parents the chance to be present at the delivery room, so newborns were taken to a shared baby room and the gestational carrier remained in a different area in the building.

If the children were in good health, they usually remained three days in hospital. Every day, parents could visit their children wearing a mask, scrubs and surgical cap provided by the hospital to protect babies.

During their stay at the hospital, nurses taught parents some basics on newborn care: feeding, hygiene, clothing, etc.

When we chose the agency for our second surrogacy procedure, we chose a program under which we were allowed to be present at the delivery room. when the birth took place. That is why, during our second surrogacy program, as an intended mother I was able to share this incredible experience with the gestational carrier even before labour had started and I was able to cut the umbilical cord and have my skin-to-skin contact with my newborn daughter.

In our second surrogacy experience, baby and intended parents spent the following days at a private room until babies were released from the maternity hospital. Likewise, the gestational carrier spent her recovery in another private room under the supervision of the hospital doctors.

When both baby and gestational carrier were ready to leave the hospital, we started a new adventure: our life as a bigger surrofamily.
