Kyiv is one of the most beautiful and one of the oldest cities of Eastern Europe.

Kyiv is situated on the picturesque banks of the Dnieper river. One of the biggest cities of Europe, Kyiv has a population of 3,14 million and occupies an area of more than 840 square kilometres.

Kyiv is known as the most green city. The area of the green zone covers 43,600 hectares (making up 168 sq.m per one resident), more than half of which is taken up by woods, public gardens, two botanical gardens, parks and tree-lined boulevards.

Kyiv's most famous historical architecture complexes are the St. Sophia Cathedral, where the princes of Kiev were crowned in the years of Kiev's grandeur, and the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra (Monastery of the Caves), has two 11th-century cathedrals on its grounds, in addition to its world-famous catacombs, which are recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.

Kyiv’s ancient tradition as a cultural centre is still vigorously alive. There are several theatres, notably the Taras Shevchenko National Opera of Ukraine.

Definitely, Kyiv subway system is one of the things to see and explore in Kyiv. Golden Gate Station is one of the most beautiful stations in Europe. In 2012, the British Daily Telegraph has recognized the station as one of the 22 most beautiful in Europe and Arsenalna metro station is the deepest station in the world (over 105 m).

Today there are more than 150 murals in the Ukrainian capital, and new images are appearing constantly.

Modern Kyiv is a mix of the old (Kyiv preserved about 70 percent of more than 1,000 buildings built during 1907–1914) and the new, seen in everything from the architecture to the stores and to the people themselves.
