Kyiv Metro, the Deepest in the World

Updated: Oct 19, 2023

The best way to explore the Ukrainian capital is on board the most widely used means of public transportation in the city: the metro, which carries 1.33 million passengers daily.

It was inaugurated in 1960 and consists of three lines covering 67 km with 52 stations, all marked in Ukrainian and English.

In Kyiv, you'll find the world's deepest metro station, Arsenalna, at 105 meters below ground. It takes about ten minutes to reach the street from the platform using its escalators.

From the Dnipro station, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the city from the train as it crosses the river.

Here are some other noteworthy stations:

  • Universytet: Located in front of Taras Shevchenko National University, decorated with busts of Ukrainian poets and scientists.

  • Khreschatyk: The most central station, its columns are covered with hand-painted mosaics in typical Ukrainian motifs.

  • Teatralna: Completed in 1987, situated near the Kyiv Opera House, where you'll find a theater exhibit at the end of the platform.

  • Palats Ukrayina: Located next to Ukraine's most important stadium, its red mosaic columns and ring-shaped chandeliers commemorate the Olympics.

  • Slavutych: Inspired by the river, formerly named Slavutych, it's covered in blue and metal, beneath a starry sky of lights.

  • Zoloti Vorota: Considered one of the ten most beautiful metro stations in the world, it's located near the Golden Gate. Its arches, mosaics, and bronze chandeliers give it a very romantic feel.

These are just some of the most iconic stations in the Ukrainian capital. Exploring them is an ideal plan for a rainy day in the city during your trips for surrogacy in Ukraine.
