Kyiv, the Capital of Golden Domes

Updated: Oct 11, 2023

The picture above shows one of our visits to the Monastery of the Caves, on the day they were about to install new domes and we could see them up close.

Let us tell you more about golden domes, a true architectural icon of Kyiv that dominates the city's skyline.

Domes of Orthodox churches are an architectural legacy of the Byzantine Empire. They are seen crowned with a cross, symbolizing the connection between earth and heaven. Their silhouette, resembling an "onion," represents the flame of a candle.

Each dome typically corresponds to a chapel, and each color has its own meaning. The golden domes represent heavenly glory and are consecrated to Christ and the twelve main feasts of the Orthodox Church.

During your visits to the Ukrainian capital as part of the surrogacy process, you can enjoy the shining golden domes, among other religious constructions in Kyiv, at St. Michael's Monastery, St. Andrew's Church, and St. Sophia's Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, just like the Monastery of the Caves. All these historical icons of the city are located in the central area and are only a few blocks apart. Don't miss the chance to visit them.

Surrogacy processes in Ukraine also offer the opportunity to explore this unique and incredible country.

Domes that fill the capital with golden light, another aspect that makes Kyiv even more magical for us...
