At the Delivery Room

Updated: Oct 19, 2023

The big day has arrived: the moment we've dreamed of so much.

First came Anna's message, and then the call from our coordinator: labor was starting.

Within a few minutes, one of the drivers from the surrogacy center passed by the apartment and took me to the maternity clinic, where one of the two most emotional moments of my life awaited me: the arrival of our daughter.

As children under six years of age were not allowed to enter maternity wards in Kyiv, Ukraine, at least during the pandemic, the new dad stayed home taking care of our older son.

Our initial plan had been to travel to Kyiv with all four grandparents, as we had done in our first surrogacy process in Ukraine to welcome our first child. However, due to the global context and the fact that the grandparents had not been vaccinated against their Covid19 yet, only the three of us traveled.

We arrived at the clinic at night, and there, a nurse was waiting for me to provide me with a complete kit including a mask, gown, surgical cap, and shoe covers to enter the delivery room.

The excitement barely allowed me to capture the images I show you in the video, the first ones upon arrival at night, and some during the day, closer to the big moment.

The delivery room was huge, very well equipped, and bright, which is not very common in Argentina, where they are often small or located in basements. There, we awaited a night of preparation and monitoring.

Under a wonderful winter sun, our little one arrived past noon, full of health and vitality. Cutting her umbilical cord was one of the most magical moments I have ever experienced, after being a privileged witness to the miracle of life, the admirable work of the maternity medical team, and Anna's incredible dedication: she was undoubtedly the angel of our story.

Next, I would be accompanying the general evaluation of our baby and the eagerly awaited skin-to-skin contact, as if I were dreaming awake...

Stay tuned for more on our time in the maternity ward.
