The day we had been waiting for since the birth finally arrived: just a few days after starting the process to register the Ukrainian birth certificate in Buenos Aires, we received a message from the Argentine Consulate in
informing us that the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs had instructed them to issue the emergency Argentine passport for our baby daughter.
The Consulate suggested a time for us on the next day to come to their offices with our daughter to complete the passport issuance process.
In addition to presenting the original documentation again, they asked us for photo of our baby on a white background. Once we took the photo on our phone, we sent it to our surrogacy center coordinator, who took care of printing a set on photographic paper so that the Consulate could include it in the passport.
Our coordinator accompanied us to the consulate, on board of one of the surrogacy center's cars, and she also handled the payments at the bank necessary for the issuance of the Argentine passport.
At the Consulate, the tiny fingerprints of our baby were taken with the help of the same Ukrainian officials who spoke perfect Spanish and had assisted us when our first child was born. It was a joy to reunite with them and receive their affectionate attention once again.
In just over an hour, which we spent in a meeting room surrounded by traditional Argentine elements and with a coffee in hand, we had the long-awaited passport in our hands for the journey back home.
Ambassador Elena Leticia Mikusinski came to deliver the passport to us, along with the Consul and their assistants. We couldn't do anything but thank them for their promptness in facilitating our return to Argentina.
The willingness of the team at the Embassy of the Argentine Republic in Ukraine was truly commendable. As a keepsake, they gifted us with the photo on this post.
Now, we were ready for our flight back home...
