Once we obtained the birth certificate in Kyiv, the procedures in Ukraine continued in order to obtain the Argentine passport for our baby.
The next step was apostille, which was handled by our surrogacy center coordinator.
The Hague Apostille is a simplified method of legalizing the birth certificate to verify its authenticity in the context of private international law.
In surrogacy cases, the Apostille is necessary to proceed to the next stage of the passport process and is requested regardless of the family nationality.
It consists of a certification document added to the birth certificate which is sealed by a competent authority: in Ukraine, it is the Ministry of Justice.
These procedures took us about a week, and when everything was ready, we were able to proceed to the next stage in Argentina.
We were very close to obtaining the Argentine emergency passport...
