Who will be our gestational carrier?

Updated: Oct 4, 2023

In our case, the appointment of our gestational carrier was in charge of the agency, according to the following factors:

  • Physical condition: the gestational carrier must have had at least a full-term healthy pregnancy and delivery . The carrier should have no more than five previous vaginal deliveries or two previous cesarean deliveries.

  • Psychological evaluation: the gestational carrier must understand the process, meet all of the criteria for acting as a carrier, and be sound mind to enter a legal agreement.

  • Social environment: the gestational carrier must have a supportive environment (family, housing, area of residence) to help her cope with the added stress of pregnancy.

After a series of interviews, candidates who are selected are called for the embryo transfer. The embryo is created through IVF using the eggs and sperm of the intended parents (or donors). After the cycle schedule has been set, the embryo is transferred to the gestational carrier and the surrogacy contract is signed.

The gestational surrogate carries the pregnancy in her hometown and travels to the agency clinic to be monitored during the early stages. Parents can be present in person or via video call.

During the final stages of the pregnancy, the gestational carrier moves to the capital city (in our case, it was Kyiv) to an apartment provided by the agency near the clinic for closer monitoring.

In upcoming posts, we will be sharing more details about our relationship with the gestational carrier, the angel who made it possible for our family dream to come true.
