The first month of our baby's life unfolded in Kyiv, Ukraine, and this is how we experienced it...
Once settled into our Ukrainian home, we began to experience life as a family of three with the learning and happiness this entails...
While our days were far from having strict schedules, they always started with a comforting Ukrainian breakfast prepared by Lina, who got to know our preferences to create a custom-tailored table: a gesture that transcended any language barrier.
Lina took care of all the shopping and household chores, a help that allowed us to dedicate ourselves to our baby without worries.
Our days were filled with diapers, bottles, cuddles, thousands of photos and videos, amazement with every new gesture and lots of excitement, literally daydreaming everyday.
Although we would have loved to be with our loved ones at this long-awaited moment, we found a unique opportunity to fully share these first weeks as a family of three, getting to know each other and recognizing our new roles as parents without interruptions. It was an invaluable opportunity that we deeply appreciated.
Of course, technology allowed us to feel close to our loved ones and bridged the distance, even with the time difference. It also enabled us to share experiences and concerns with our pediatrician in Argentina, who was always ready to advise us.
However, we weren't alone when it came to medical advice. Every other day, we received a visit from Viktoria, the pediatrician appointed by the surrogacy center, to conduct routine check-ups and answer our questions, teaching us everything from how to clean the umbilical cord to giving anti-colic massages. We are so grateful to Viktoria that we still stay in touch via email to this day.
As the first days passed, the first baths and walks arrived, with our baby nearly immobile due to all the layers of clothing! The green surroundings of Kyiv were ideal for connecting with nature and enjoying that necessary change of scenery that was so beneficial for our child.
And before we knew it, amidst paperwork at the civil registry and consulate, the day came when we had to pack our bags to fly back to our country...
Soon, we will tell you what those papers are all about. In our case, paperwork was easier than expected. The days flew by! We were already halfway to our flight to Argentina...
