We are frequently asked how we managed to communicate with Anna, the gestational carrier of our daughter, who primarily spoke Russian, like many residents of Ukraine, due to the requirement that schools teach their classes in Russian during the time Ukraine for part of the Soviet Union.
In many instances, the coordinator of the surrogacy center acted as a translator, but we also had a resource to understand each other in writing without intermediaries: the "Google Translator" or "Google Translate" app.
The app can be downloaded for free on all mobile devices and offers different options for inputting the message to be translated: typing, handwriting, or voice input.
You can choose from countless language combinations to translate (Russian/English, Ukrainian/English, the two languages spoken there), and even listen to the pronunciation of the translated message.
If you don't have an internet connection, the option to pre-download the language combination in question for offline use can be useful while you're out and about.
We'll soon share how to make the most of this app for real-time verbal conversations and reading texts in Russian or Ukrainian during your surrogacy journey.
