At the birth of our daughter, the surrogacy center coordinator inquired if we wanted to carry out neonatal screening, to which we agreed upon the advice of our pediatrician in Argentina, who explained the importance of conducting this study as early as possible to detect some of the following congenital diseases:
Primary congenital hypothyroidism
Phenylketonuria
Congenital adrenal hyperplasia
Cystic fibrosis
Galactosemia
Biotinidase deficiency
In the early stages, these pathologies are asymptomatic, so early detection through screening can be crucial. It allows for timely treatment to prevent irreversible mental and/or physical disabilities, ultimately improving the quality of life for children.
The study cost 70 euros, which were added to the payment we made before our return, we received the printed report in English ten days after the test.
In our first surrogacy experience in Ukraine, the previous center did not offer us neonatal screening, and we had to do it privately upon our return to Argentina at a similar cost to the current one test Ukraine.
