Neonatology in Kyiv, Our Experience

Updated: Oct 10, 2023

The video features the first moments in our daughter's life, under the observation of the midwife and her assistant, who took note of her weight, measurements, and Apgar score right after her arrival in the world.

Once it was confirmed that everything was fine, we spent some time in the same delivery room on skin-to-skin contact using a rocking chair, while Anna, our baby's gestational carrier, recovered under the care of the doctors and nurses.

After a while, a nurse escorted us to our hospital room and assisted us during our first moments there, while Anna stayed a bit longer in the delivery room and was later moved to her own hospital room.

From then on, we received regular visits from the pediatrician, neonatologist, and nurses for routine check-ups, medical examinations, and vaccinations, as well as guidance on anything we might need.

Our stay in the clinic from the time of birth was two nights and just under two days, the same amount of time Anna stayed hospitalized: we all received the discharge at the same time.

Upon discharge, we were given a medical report in Ukrainian, which was later translated into our native language by our surrogacy center coordinator, which contained all the details of the birth and the assessment of the newborn, as well as her progress during her first two days and the medical check-ups performed. The report also includes the names of the attending doctors.

Stay tuned for more information on additional tests and vaccination of the newborn, both important steps once our baby was born in Ukraine through surrogacy.
