The wonderful city of Lviv, often referred to as the "Prague of Ukraine," is increasingly gaining relevance as a stopover on the journey to surrogacy in Ukraine, especially on the way back with newborn babies.
While many families travel from the surrogacy center in Kyiv by train or car directly to Poland, where they catch their flight to their home countries, more and more families are choosing to take an overnight train to Lviv and rest there for one or more nights in a hotel before continuing to Poland.
In this case, instead of a direct journey of around fifteen hours from Kyiv to Warsaw, the trip is broken into a seven-hour train ride from Kyiv to Lviv and then another seven-hour trip by car (the surrogacy center coordinates this transfer with the same driver who handles the Kyiv/Warsaw transfers, as mentioned in previous posts) or another train ride.
The advantage of this itinerary is that tickets for the Kyiv/Lviv train with sleeping compartments are easier to obtain than tickets for the Kyiv/Warsaw train. Therefore, once the baby is born and the appointment at the consulate for the emergency passport is scheduled, it's usually possible to get a ticket to Lviv for the day after the appointment, whereas tickets to Warsaw are often not available until several days later.
Besides, this option allows for a more restful journey and the opportunity to explore Lviv, the cultural capital of Ukraine.
Located in western Ukraine, just a few kilometers from the Polish border, Lviv is a tourist magnet. Visitors are fascinated by its Renaissance and Central European architecture, its countless churches and cathedrals, its festivals, museums, and cafes.
The marks of its Polish and Austro-Hungarian past are evident in its architecture, which combines styles from Central and Eastern Europe with those from Italy and Germany.
Thanks to the families who have shared their recent experiences, we can post this information for those who are about to travel.
Happy travels to everyone!
