Whether you opt for induced lactation and need to supplement it with formula milk or decide to exclusively feed your baby this way, newborn feeding is an important aspect of the surrogacy process.
That's why one of the most frequent questions we are asked questions is about formula milk available in Ukraine: are all international brands available there? Will we find the brand recommended by our pediatrician at our home country?
Watch the video to share our visit to the supermarket shelf in Kyiv, I'll show you the brands available in Ukraine. While moms through surrogacy can always resort to induced lactation to breastfeed their babies, it is always necessary to complement with formula milk.
Brands like Nutrilon, Nan, and others, as well as local options, are readily available in supermarkets, pharmacies, and specialty baby stores. Note they are only available in powdered form, which is why baby water, which I will show in future posts, is so common for dissolving formula.
The only brand available in liquid form is a German brand called "Humana", enriched with human milk oligosaccharides. The surrogacy center gave us a box in their birth kit, but we ultimately didn't use it and went with Nutrilon to avoid switching when we returned to Argentina.
In Ukraine, Nutrilon is sold in in 1-kilogram boxes divided into two bags.
In future posts, we'll show you how we complemented formula milk with special water for newborn consumption.
