In previous videos, we showed you the newborn starter kit and the equipment provided for newborns by the surrogacy center in Georgia and Ukraine, as well as the first-year kit given to us by the Ukrainian government upon leaving the maternity clinic.
Watch the video to see some extras that were helpful to us when our children were born: items not included in the aforementioned kits that you can purchase in your home country or in your surrogacy destination, whichever is more convenient for you.
Portable diaper changing pad: while the surrogacy center provided us with a changing table on wheels for the apartment, and our maternity clinic room also had a changing table, I recommend bringing a portable changing pad for use during your car transfers at the destination and on the return flight. It's handy and convenient for changing diapers on the go.
Newborn baby carrier: it's very useful for babywearing during the early days and for moving around, allowing you to have both hands free while keeping the baby close to your chest, snug and warm.
Extra pacifiers: if you plan to offer pacifiers to your babies, I recommend having some extras apart from the ones provided by the surrogacy center in case they get dirty or lost.
Pacifier holder: if you answered yes to the previous item, I suggest bringing pacifier holders to prevent falls or losses. Remember to remove the pacifier holder when putting the baby down to prevent any choking hazards.
Powdered milk dispenser: if you opt for powdered formula, consider using these milk containers with a pouring spout. They allow you to portion out the milk servings when you're out with your baby, avoiding the need to carry the entire package. They are also handy for preparing nighttime feedings, making it easier to prepare bottles. In the future, these dispensers can be used for storing cereals, nuts, and more.
Bottle warmer: this device ensures a uniform and suitable temperature for the newborn's milk, avoiding the use of a microwave oven. It can also be used for heating baby food in the future.
Burp cloths: a simple but very useful item for cleaning the baby during feeding. Cotton burp cloths are ideal.
As I mentioned, this list only includes general extras that you can buy at any time and place.
