In Kontraktova Square, located in the historic Podil neighborhood and surrounded by historic buildings, lies one of our favorite attractions in the Ukrainian capital.
This Ferris Wheel was brought from Paris for New Year's 2017 and stands 43 meters tall.
The panoramic views allowed us to see the Dniper River and its bridges, the historic center, St. Andrew’s Church up on the hill, and, closer by, St. Catherine’s Church, which held a very special meaning for us as it shares the name of our daughter, whose birth we were expecting at the time.
We enjoyed this ride so much that we took it during the day and returned a few days later to do it again at night, when the lights of the wheel and the city give it a different charm.
Our visit was in winter, with snow-covered roofs and fairly cloudy skies, but surely in summer the city’s colors must appear even more vibrant.
Afterward, we strolled through the streets of Podil, Kyiv’s oldest neighborhood, full of history, shops, street performers, and colorful façades.
